Before the ticker tape parades and the inevitable world tour, the triumphant Apollo 11 astronauts were greeted with a more mundane aspect of life on Earth when they splashed down 40 years ago today - going through customs.
If you have bought or rented a movie on a DVD sometime in the last few years, you would have had to sit through the compulsory anti-piracy video at the beginning. You know, the one with the urgent death-metal-thrash techno music in the background, and the words on the screen telling you that you wouldn't steal a car, or a handbag, or a television, or a movie. It then goes on to tell you that: "downloading pirated movies is stealing" and furthermore that "stealing is against the law" and finishes off with the bleak message that "piracy is a crime".

Cheeky chocolatiers in England have created Edible Anus, a line of handmade Belgian chocolates that are “lovingly cast and crafted” from the asshole of a butt model. You can order your own chocolate stars in white, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate at their site.
Nigella sativa — more commonly known as fennel flower — has been used as a cure-all remedy for over a thousand years. It treats everything from vomiting to fevers to skin diseases, and has been widely available in impoverished communities across the Middle East and Asia.
But now Nestlé is claiming to own it, and filing patent claims around the world to try and take control over the natural cure of the fennel flower and turn it into a costly private drug.
Tell Nestlé: Stop trying to patent a natural cure
In a paper published last year, Nestlé scientists claimed to “discover” what much of the world has known for millennia: that nigella sativa extract could be used for “nutritional interventions in humans with food allergy”.
Romney said:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.
[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
When you want to cool a can of soda (or beer) quickly, what do you do? Stick it in the freezer! Wait a little bit and then boom, bang, icy deliciousness. We all do this. We don't expect the can to explode in our face and cut us up until we need 38 stitches like this poor boy in China.
According to RocketNews24, a boy in China took a frozen soda can straight out of the freezer and when he pulled back the tab, the can exploded and sent aluminum shrapnel straight at his face. It was a serious injury that required 31 stitches to his face and 7 inside his mouth. Yikes! How did this happen?
Ultimate hacker - brain hacker
Even Nolan didn’t think it could be possible when he made Inception, but it turns out that researchers at Usenix Security conference have been speaking of using a computer interface to hack the brain! Yes, it might actually be possible to enter the brain and retrieve information that you’d prefer to keep secret. Like retrieving a combination key to a safe that your dying father might have given you and you have it stored somewhere in the subconscious.

Five years ago a composer created music for use in a one-off anti-piracy video. However, without his permission it was used time and again on dozens of commercial DVDs such as Harry Potter. Even in the wake of a huge controversy over “corrupt” and “mafia-like” practices, the local music rights group that got involved in the case failed to pay him the money he was owed. The case went to court and this week the music rights group lost.
For nine months, William McKee took the generic version of Propecia, the pills that promise to halt hair loss.
But the drug had radical side effects: Instead of becoming a better-looking man, he started becoming a woman, he claims.
“My rock-hard chest from the gym began to soften . . . reaching the point where I had noticeable ‘breasts’ even under my clothing,” he says.
Among other changes, the 38-year-old software engineer claims, “my shoulders were literally falling into a more feminine position, and my hips were loosening and becoming wider, as on a woman’s body.”’
